On Saturday, September 10, 3 Putnam County High School musicians attended the 10th Annual Atlanta Saxophone Day held on the campus of the Georgia State University School of Music. Mary Mead, Julisa Rojas and Victoria Sanchez, all members of the PCHS Jazz Band and officers in the Marching Band, joined 118 soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass saxophone players from all over the southeast in a massed saxophone choir. In this ensemble they rehearsed and performed works by Italian composer, Ottorino Respighi, and Americans Steven Bryant and Charles Ives. They also attended Master Class performances, a solo recital, and clinic by classical French saxophonist Claude Delangle, instructor at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris. The opportunity to meet and perform with talented musicians from around the world was a unique and valuable experience that will benefit not only these students, but the other members of the PCHS music program as well.
